With today’s announcement of the two new members to the SAFE Board of Directors, we must finally come to terms with the departure of a treasured member of our group, Beth Amberg. Beth broke our hearts last year when she announced that she and her family would be moving to Thornton, Colorado where her husband had just landed a terrific new job. Moving to Colorado meant the end of Beth’s tenure on the SAFE BoD, and we bid her a tearful farewell last winter. But she’s never been far from our hearts and minds, and she even made a surprise appearance at last February’s Heart of the Horse. We like to joke that we had to find two new Board Members to replace her, but the truth is Beth has been an integral part of this organization for a long time, and she will be sorely missed.

Beth started volunteering with SAFE back in 2009, and quickly became one of our most trusted and popular workers. She was a founding member of the SAFE Advisory Board, and joined the Board of Directors as its secretary in 2011. Through good times and bad, Beth’s intelligence, kindness, and wry sense of humor has lead this organization forward. We came to rely very strongly on her common sense approach and her unique point of view, and her creativity and management skills were invaluable to development of SAFE as a rescue.
One of the greatest gifts Beth gave to SAFE was her decision to open her heart to one of our horses; she adopted SAFE horse Hancock’s Dusty Star and through hard work and devotion, turned this former stallion into an beautiful dressage horse. Beth and Dusty have been an inspiration to many of us here at SAFE, and we are so happy to know that they are enjoying their new home together.
All of us at SAFE are grateful to Beth for everything she has done for this organization. We also thank her husband Matt and children Daisy and Ian not only for their own contributions to SAFE, but for letting this rescue be such a big part of Beth’s life for so long. We wish Beth the best of luck with her fabulous new career with Roma Moulding and her new adventures with the Birds of Prey Foundation.
