Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month, Molly!! Molly is a delight to be around, she brings sunshine to the barn and is a fantastic leader for her Friday PM team. Friday nights are hard shifts to fill, but every Friday, there is Molly, spending her “weekend” night with us. If there was an award for longest distance traveled to volunteer, it would surely go to her for the 50+ miles she drives one way to hang out with our horses and staff. She not only is the Shift Lead on her team, she recently became a Barn Assist and is quick to fill in for others when they need a shift covered. I can speak for the entire staff and say that we are extremely lucky that she found SAFE and we can’t imagine this place without you.
How and when did you first get involved with horses? Do you have one now you want to tell us about?
I first got involved with horses when I would beg my parents at every opportunity to go riding as a child. Then when I was sixteen I found my heart horse at an auction yard and got to spend the final few years of his life being best friends. From that moment on I have found ways to have horses in my life one way or another. I feel so lucky to have found SAFE and hope that one day I can adopt my next heart horse from such an dedicated and special organization.
What do you like most about volunteering with SAFE?
I love the ability to see the horses blossom into their truest most balanced selves as they find safety and comfort in this beautiful environment surrounded by people who are committed to supporting them in so many ways. The people at SAFE are the heart and soul and it’s an incredible experience to watch them work together to accomplish the best possible outcomes.
Do you have a favorite SAFE horse? If so, why?
I love every single horse that passes through SAFE! But Lacey is my absolute favorite mare and Cramer is a very close second. I love Lacey because every time I see her she asks me to be fully present in myself and honest in my intentions and then she opens up to me. I love watching her be the silly, strong-willed, beautiful horse she is inside. It’s so amazing to me that when horses come to SAFE they always have a home no matter how long it takes their people to find them.
What do you do when you are not horsing around with us?
I spend my working time as a nanny to some really amazing kids. And in my free time I love hiking and adventuring with my dog!
Do you have family or special people in your life who support your volunteer work that you would want us to mention in your write up?
My whole family is so supportive! I’d like to say a special shout out to my best friends who listen to me talk about horses and SAFE for hours on end.
