To know her is to love her. The ‘her’ in question is Sienna of course, but if you had to make an educated (or even uneducated) guess, it’s likely you would have reached that conclusion on your own, for Sienna is tremendously easy to love.

Something about Sienna makes her seem much bigger than her 15 hands. True, she is big boned, but it goes beyond that, an internal magnitude, like the Grinch at the end of the story. Perhaps that is Sienna’s greatness: her heart.

Sienna is the mascot for many programs here at SAFE. She is the typically the first horse volunteers learn to groom, to lead, to take vitals on, to learn the groundwork ropes. She could easily be in possession of an honorary degree — a doctorate in education.

It’s no chore to spend time with this special mare. She has a gentleness about her, a softness of the eye, and, as we creep steadily towards winter, of the coat.

Sienna has been at SAFE for nearly 7 years, and she can stay for as long as she needs to. However, she is more than ready to go be a kind companion to a family of her own.
