Sadly, Bandit was humanely euthanized in January 2010 by his adopter. The winter was very hard on him, and he was having issues with founder, thrush and chronic diarrhea.

Description:
Bandit is a 15-year-old paint Quarter horse gelding. He stands 15 hands high, and despite a conformational defect in his back, he is a beautiful and solid horse. He has never had any health problems of any kind. He is perfectly rideable and loves to go trail riding. He is very gentle,but he doesn’t have the best herd manners. He tends to crowd humans and get beat up by aggressive horses, because he won’t yield. Regular groundwork does wonders to make him respect authority figures better. Bandit is extremely brave and friendly. He rarely startles or spooks at anything and he’s very trusting with new people and horses. His previous owner rode him all over the pasture with just a bareback pad, a halter, and two lead ropes as reins. Bandit will need a little conditioning before he can be active again, as he’s pretty much been a pasture pet for the past three years. He loves to go into a stall to get out of the weather, but he doesn’t do very well when he is cooped up in a stall for long periods of time. This horse really needs his turnout to stay mellow and well behaved.

“Bandit’s defect is a swayback. My vet endorsed him as perfectly rideable and his old owners took him trail riding all the time. I know that they didn’t have any fit problems with him when they used his foam wedge with their saddle, but I have only used a bareback pad with him (without the wedge).”
Problems with Bandit:
Since Bandit has been in SAFE foster care, we have had some issues with his ability to play well with others…specifically, other horses. He tends to bully other horses, and would do best in a situation where he can be turned out separate from other less dominant horses.
