Kaya M has been working and riding Edward, and recently took him to attend the Buck Brannaman clinics in Spanaway and Ellensburg. Here’s what she has to say about the experience:
“Eddie was a lucky guy recently! For two weekends in a row, he got to hang out with Buck Brannaman and learn a whole bunch. I’m so so proud of him and how much he really tried both weekends. Neither venue made it easy on the guy… the first was an indoor arena with crowds close in at all sides and many types of noises in the bleachers and the second was a huge rodeo arena with wild eastern Washington winds and all kinds of things flapping and banging around. Through all of these challenging environments, Eddie looked to me for support. He left his friends and rode where I asked him to because he knew I would keep him safe. Now, it did take both of us some work to get there… there was a lot of me doing my best to manage my own nerves so I could support Edward and, though we had a couple moments of difficulty, every single time I reached for that horse, he reached for me right back. I felt our partnership really hit it’s stride these two weekends and I feel like we could take on almost anything together now!
Through all these challenges, we really learned a TON from Buck. The first weekend, Eddie made huge changes in his turn around and in his soft feel work. He’s now able to turn 360’s both directions with his head level and with the correct amount of flexion and he can carry a soft feel a long ways without getting heavy. Given these changes, the second weekend we really got to work on leg yeilding and made huge progress there!
Suffice it to say, I’m so proud of this horse. He is going to make and amazing partner for someone. Eddie still needs support and needs to know that you’re there to take care of the monsters and get you both out of trouble, but once he understands that, you won’t find a more loving and loyal partner.”
