The Murrays

Congratulations to our December Volunteers of the Month: the Murray Family!  In the year or so that Wade & Denise Murray have been supporting SAFE they are continually looking for more ways they can help. They volunteer at SAFE benefit events, and when it came time to start their own equine family, Wade fell in love with and adopted SAFE alum Holly. They also currently foster SAFE horse Khianna.

Denise volunteered to dedicate a large room in her barn to housing and selling tack for SAFE.  Murray’s Tack Trunk is now located on Facebook and Denise is always busy cleaning, organizing, marketing & selling tack, blankets & apparel.

When they are not enjoying their horses, Denise is an ER Nurse & Wade is a Police Officer. They often come home from their stressful jobs and find peace and relaxation with the horses.

Two of their kids, Shelby & Dominic live at home and help with caring for the horses. Even their two daughters, Evelyn & Rebecca, who live out of state, follow the SAFE horses online. Last month, after the Murray’s loaned SAFE their trailer for the Reber Fill the Trailer event AND delivered it all to SAFE Harbor Stables, the girls came along to help unload. They then went stall to stall to finally meet the horses they know online. There’s a sense that they’ve adopted SAFE into their whole family and we couldn’t be more honored.  Thank you to the Murray family for your continued support of SAFE!

Here are some thoughts from Denise…

Wade and I have been involved with SAFE for a year now after I met Jet at my daughter Shelby’s lesson barn “Horsepitality Too” where Sugar and Coconut live. We took in a foster soon after we moved into our 10 acre farm in Enumclaw. Wade’s favorite SAFE horse will always be his horse Holly but at Safe Harbor Stables, Strider is his current favorite. Mine would have to be Honeycutt as he and my Mustang mare Fiona are kindred spirits of sorts. Neither one can be ridden but have such incredible personalities and so much to offer as members of our human families. Wade and I became volunteers because we both had brief encounters with horses as children but finances were never such that we had enough time for that horse/human connection. We both decided as kids that when we were old enough to make our own money we would have a horse! SAFE impressed us with their structure, professionalism and truly responsible work with the horses.
