Do crocodiles cry for the victims they are eating, as legend holds? Certainly not — they have no tear ducts.
Jean Elledge does, as she demonstrated again at her sentencing hearing in Snohomish County Superior Court yesterday.
There was no glare of publicity this time, only the grey light of a damp November afternoon from the bank of windows. Whether because it was the day before elections or a desire by the County to keep the case out of the limelight, there was media. There was also no nephew to plead that taking his aunt away would lead to his own downfall. That strategy had failed in King County already. There were, however, plenty of people in the courtroom who would have liked to be heard but were not called on, including a woman whose horse nearly died in Jean Elledge’s care.
