We are privileged to have a number of talented and dedicated people working behind the scenes for SAFE, and the time has come to recognize them for their hard work. The SAFE Advisory Board meets once a month to discuss current SAFE business and make future plans. They handle everything from event planning to grant writing, and in addition to serving on the Advisory Board, each of them volunteers for SAFE and puts in a lot of time making this organization great.
ALLISON SHEKA has been volunteering with SAFE for nearly five years, and has provided a great deal of valuable hands-on work with the SAFE horses. She recently took on the position of SAFE Volunteer Coordinator, and is responsible for making sure that chore shifts are covered, and that volunteers are trained properly for their duties. Allison has worked with many SAFE horses over the years, and is currently the main rider for SAFE horse Annie.
BETH AMBERG joined SAFE last summer and brought her talents to our attention at the 2010 SAFE Benefit Show where she took charge of the volunteer hospitality tent. Beth was instrumental in the success of HeART of the Horse II which she hosted and provided framing services for through her employer Museum Quality Framing. Beth works closely with the volunteers in charge of feeding the SAFE horses every day, and she works as a liaison between SAFE and the area’s 4‑H and youth groups. She’s also the proud adopter of SAFE horse Dusty.
DEBI SHATOS adopted a SAFE horse named Waldo several years ago. She provides her services as a grant writer to SAFE and is working hard to find grants and foundation gifts that will help SAFE build its barn. Debi brings a great deal of experience and professionalism to SAFE and has done a lot to help us develop as a non-profit.
JET PARRETT came to SAFE following the Elledge seizure of 2008 when a little horse named Kokomo captured her heart. She has worked diligently for SAFE ever since, and has been the force behind many of our successes, most notably HeART of the Horse and the Lucky’s Charm fundraiser. Jet held the position of SAFE Volunteer Coordinator for many years, and more recently has lent her care and compassion to the SAFE Assisted Placement program.
LISA DOBBIN brings a great deal of valuable equine experience to SAFE, having worked for several years for Dr Hannah Evergreen. Lisa truly brings the role of adviser to the Advisory Board, and her counsel and suggestions have been invaluable to SAFE over the years. Lisa has recently taken on bookkeeping duties for SAFE, and will use her skills and experience to keep SAFE’s financials in tip-top shape.
SARA HALL has been a tremendous asset to SAFE for a number of years. Sara plays a vital role in the adoption process, as her in-depth knowledge of the SAFE horses makes her the perfect person to show horses to potential adopters and work with them to ensure a good match. Sara provides ongoing exercise and training to several of the SAFE horses, most recently, Zanadu, Dexter, and Baxter. She also coordinates SAFE’s ongoing efforts to conduct yearly follow up visits to adopted SAFE horses.
Thank you to all the members of the SAFE Advisory Board!
