Ben H worked a bit with our guy Jacob at the May Joel Conner clinic, and has the following to say about their time together:

My time with Jacob was 3 days at a Joel Conner clinic this spring of 2024. When I first went to catch him, he was reluctant to be caught and lead on the end of a Halter rope. Within a minute of catching him and rubbing his neck, he started to follow my lead.

We headed into the clinic to do groundwork and he was dull and unwilling to move his feet at first. After a couple minutes of working on the front and high quarters, he started to untrack and became very soft in my hands. Halfway through the first morning, I was able to use a flag and whip it all over and around his body without causing him any fear. As the morning went on, he started to trust me and he knew that I wouldn’t hurt him. By the end of the first day, I was able to swing my rope and throw it over his back and around his feet to the point where he was falling asleep while doing so.
Jacob is a really sweet guy and I am so glad that I got to have three days to spend with him working not only on my Horsemanship but allowing him the chance to trust a human again. He is a really cool horse! His demeanor was calm and collected, and he seemed to enjoy the attention that I gave him when we were working together. I will forever keep the fond memories of the days I got to spend with Jacob! I’m sure whoever adopts him will come to find the same!”
