SEATTLE — A Carnation woman was sentenced to nine moths in jail for felony animal cruelty today in a major animal abuse case involving dozens of dead and starving horses.

The judge called the animal abuse “despicable” and said most people treat their cars better than Jean Elledge treated her horses.

KING 5 first brought this story to light last year.

The abuse shocked the veterinarian who found four horses dead and 10 close to death on Elledge’s farm.

Elledge told the judge she did not mean the horses any harm. “I think I was so blinded by this idea of, you know, ‘it’s gonna work,’ that I just had my head in the sand,” she said.

The judge ordered a mental evaluation of Elledge. She will not be allowed to have a pet.
