Heather has contributed to our mission in a variety of ways.In addition to volunteering her time to do adoption and alumni site checks, she organized the 2nd Annual Highbrow Hack and did a smashing job! But the fact that she has opened her home to not one, but two SAFE foster horses makes her very special. Chip has had the good fortune to be part of Heather’s equine family for nearly a year, and she took in Strider over the winter when he really needed somewhere to go.
It truly does Take A Herd to Help a Horse…and we appreciate all of the volunteers who give their time and talents. Sincere thanks to Heather for her role in helping SAFE horses. Here is a little more about her in her own words…
Horses have always been a dream of mine. When I was a little girl, I had a saddle under my bed and put all my allowance in a box that was decoupaged with photos of beautiful horses for when I could buy myself a horse. I was not lucky enough to actually own a horse until I was in my 30’s. This unleashed the horse crazy girl and now I own 6 equines. I have two beautiful Friesians – Heidi and Galahad, my quarter horse (the one who started me on this journey) Sis, as well as a miniature horse – Jet, and two miniature donkeys – Mr. Gunsmoke and Teddy Roosevelt.
When I am not “horsing around”, I am a real estate broker with John L. Scott and have been marketing homes for the last 22 years. I am married to a wonderful horse husband and we live at Bridle Trails in Bellevue. I can’t remember exactly how I found S.A.F.E. but I was immediately drawn to their values and the work they do to help horses in need. I started out by asking my family and friends to make donations in lieu of gifts for myself and my husband on birthdays and Christmas. I was happy to help organize the 2nd annual Highbrow Hack last fall as well as serve on the Heart of the Horse auction procurement committee for the most recent auction.
Last summer I finished my new barn and wanted to find a companion for my Sis that I was bringing home. Bonnie brought me Chip who we have fostered for almost a year now. In November when S.A.F.E. needed a winter home for Strider, we were most pleased to be able to give him a foster home until his summer foster could take him back. I really enjoy doing the foster and adoption checks and meeting so many wonderful people who have, or are willing to open their hearts and homes to take in these amazing animals. My favorite S.A.F.E. horse has to be a tie between Chip and Strider. They are Yin and Yang. Chip is petite and reserved and Strider is enormous (we call him the Moose) and very outgoing. Once a horse lives with you, and you are entrusted with their care, they will forever hold a special place in my heart.
