Krabask was surrendered to SAFE at the age of 23. We believe he was abandoned by his owner at a boarding barn, but there was a lot of confusion surrounding who had owned him and how he got to be in such poor shape. Krabask was very thin when he arrived, but was still perky and sound, with a very cute trot. We were also told that he was a very well trained dressage horse. This we were able to confirm by contacting his owner of record at the AHA, who had showed him extensively. She also told us that he had taught many children how to ride, that he loved being a schoolmaster for the little ones, and that he was a great foal-sitter for weanlings and young horses. 

In addition to being very thing, Krabask had a hairless lump on his neck that proved to be cancerous, but it was removed cleanly by Dr Hannah, and healed well. And, unsurprisingly, after just a month of being fed correctly, Krabask gained back the weight he had lost, and really started looking like his former self. In late summer 2009, Krabask moved to a foster home at a farm in Arlington, and it didn’t take long for him to get back to doing what he did best: teaching kids how to ride! It also didn’t take long for the foster to become a permanent home! 

Krabs would spent the next eight years being absolutely adored by his adopter and everyone who met him. He taught the farm owners’ five grandkids how to ride, and he lived a happy healthy life. He left this world at the remarkable age of 33, and he is still remembered fondly to this day. He was a very special horse who made a lasting impression on a lot of people. We heard from so many people who knew him in his younger days and everyone remembered him as a truly great horse. Krabask is missed, but his story still brings great joy to those who knew him.
