Roger B Rabbit (aka “Roger”) only raced his 4 year old season and had one win. After a year off he went to work as a track pony escorting thoroughbreds at the track for workouts and racing. After 17 years of working in the high energy track environment he’s a very calm and easy going horse.
Roger passes all 17 performance evaluation points: Halter — Lead — Yield Hind End — Grooms — Pick Up Feet — Cross-Ties — Stalls- Trailer Loads/rides — Clips — Hose/wash — Back Up — Lunge — Saddle — Bridle — Walk — Trot — Canter
Additionally, Roger can pony another horse with confidence & is not spooky nor gets rattled easily. He has done some trails and is “interested” in new surroundings but not concerned. He recently was selected for a Make-A-Wish visit & was a model citizen while around the children who visited the race barn, even standing still while the kids sat on him in the barn isle.
He’s up to date on all of his dental, vaccine, farrier and vet needs & is sound with no health issues outside of some minor age-related arthritis that is managed with MSM. He is a cribber in a stall but does well with a cribbing collar. In a paddock/pasture environment he has no cribbing issues at all. He has lived for years in the stalls at Emerald Downs without confinement issues but prefers a paddock/pasture setting.
Roger’s been a dependable work partner and loving companion to his owner who is relocating to Arizona and feels that the stress of the long move and heat/dry environment might be too much to ask of him & hopes he’ll find a loving new home here in Washington.
Roger is Well Started, has a great work ethic and would probably adapt well as personal pleasure horse for an Advanced Beginner.
What a cutie!
Would you consider letting him come to my place in Pasco since we’ve fostered for you in the past and you know what our place is like? I’ll understand if the answer is “no” but please think about iit.
Karen — we will certainly consider it. Please submit an application if you are seriously interested in providing this boy a loving lifetime home!
hi,
I Just got back from a trail ride on Roger down to the bottom of o’gradys and back with Stacy and her 3year old. We went down the road, cars, trucks, motorcycles, cows, goats, sheep, turkeys, running horses in fields, dogs with hikers other trail riders. We crossed a bridge with running water under it. The ole’ man took it all in stride. He seemed to really like the ride! He is going to be an awesome trail horse.
Also he was great in the lead, following and riding side by side with other horses
Just saw your response. Will fill out app tomorrow…
Thank you so much for sending Roger to us. Not only is HE an addition to our family, Jet and Heather are too!
The driving part of our road trip didn’t go as smoothly as we hoped, but the time spent with Heather, Roger, and Jet was smooth and easy! Jet came to see our place a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed her visit. Everyone likes to talk about their horses, and I am no exception. Jet listened with patience as I rambled on and on about my “babies”.
When we met Heather in person, she was easy to talk to and answered all our questions. She gave tips on Roger and his care. I asked for a write up on what to feed him (his slop) and even though we talked about it, she typed it up to send home with us.
Overall, the whole experience was smooth and easy and I look forward to seeing her next year for the annual visit. Heather, of course, is welcome to come and visit any time!
I am SO SO happy to be a part of the SAFE family!
Congratulations Karen!! So neat to hear that the adoption process was fun and easy for you and Roger! Thanks for the kind words about our Jet (we love her too!) and thanks for offering Roger a great home! So happy for both of you!
