Romeo was laid to rest on May 26th at 5pm. He spent his last day eating the lush spring grass and visiting the neighboring horses in their paddocks, and he got a massage from our friend Jean Olsen while he grazed. At 4:30 I brought him a tub of grain, treats and carrots for him to eat as well, while we groomed him from head to tail. I took these photos while he grazed:
Dr. Hannah arrived at 5pm with her assistant and her intern who wanted a chance to say goodbye. I brought out the bag of carrots that Brooke had brought for him, and he greedily ate carrot after carrot as Dr. Hannah came and gave him some powerful painkillers and sedatives to help him make the walk across the driveway to the grassy area where were we putting him to rest. He ate the entire bag of carrots, and then we said our goodbyes while Dr. Hannah heavily sedated him and then we let him go. Run free, sweet Romeo. We will never forget you.

Love you Romeo, I hope you are able to gallop pain free. We will all miss your sweet face.
I can see that his hock is swelled, he must have been in a great deal of pain..I know you guys always make the right decision. Do not feel bad..he is running the mountains in heaven, in no pain, endless carrots and miles of pastures to roam in…forever.
Love you romeo. I’m glad you’re free of that horrid pain in your hock, and I’m sorry that a horse as fine as you had to live with idiots who let you become badly injured.
Thank you for the loving pictorial tribute, compassionate treatment & the honorable end he was given.
Gorgeous pictures Jaime. I sure will miss him, but he is in a much happier place now. Rest in Peace sweet Romie.
What a tough decision to have to make! My heart goes out to all who knew him…he looked like a very intelligent (and sweet) horse! He’s lucky to have had such loving care.
I knew of this horse hackney stallion AKA FLAMBOYANT ST.. I am glad to hear his final days he was actually cared for.. and is no longer suffering. Its hard to think he was abandoned, and uncared for..
